YAHAIRA COLON /OYARY

By Lead Singer/ Manager Yahaira Colon Rivera AKA Oyary
The Biography of My Life. In the year 2010 I earned my Masters degree on ESOL becoming an educator for secondary school. I taught ESOL for 10 years, I also taught primary school math for 5 years. Unfortunately ,education was not what it used to be and my decision to leave and go back to college was the best decision for me. In my younger years I always wanted to pursue a medical career, that desire to achieve my goal helped me earn my bachelors degree in medical science becoming a registered nurse. However, life is cruel and unforgiving. I was working in a hospital as a nurse when I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic ductal carcinoma on my right breast. I went through countless aggressive chemotherapy and radiations affecting my lungs and other major parts of my body, I had to get a double mastectomy and I’m still on the list for two more major surgeries. It has been a long journey for about 3 years fighting breast cancer and it's still aggressively at bay like a shark. Cancer has kept me from my career and my day to day life but I’m still a warrior and I face death like my worst frienemy…I was forced to find my most inner talents with this cancer fight. I found that my singing voice was a contender , so I decided to give it a try…I joined a band named Omilasa and for the first time in my life I dared to use this so called singing talent of mines on stage in front of people, little old me on stage, I see life with different eyes now, inviting the new and out with the old. I have currently recorded several songs and more are coming soon. I owe a lifetime of gratitude to my family and my son Jonathan for showing me lots of love with my music and to the owner of Omilasa Mr. Pedro Ithier Jr stood by me during the scariest hardest moments in my life and for genuinely creating beautiful music for me. I also want to thank the band members for always expertly and professionally backing me up on stage. I also would like to thank Robert McDonough AKA Wiz for mastering my songs, he is a genius engineer.
Lastly, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to my dad Diego L. Colon, My mother Rosa M. Rivera My Sister Isamar Colòn Rivera, My Brother Diego J. Colòn Rivera will always be my rock. I can’t wait to see how this flourishes.
